REPACKAGING OF OBSOLETE PESTICIDES IN MINSK REGION BEGAN

The preparation of hazardous waste for removal for disposal was started in Slutsk district at the warehouse of obsolete pesticides of the JSC "Slutsk Agroservice".

At the warehouse located in the Novodvortsy village, Slutsk district, Minsk region, work was started to prepare obsolete pesticides for transportation for environmentally safe elimination.

About 300 tonnes of obsolete pesticides, mostly containing persistent organic pollutants, are concentrated in the largest warehouse of obsolete pesticides in Minsk region, owned by the JSC "Slutsk Agroservice".

Work with wastes of 1-2 hazard classes is carried out by Geocoma company specialists engaged by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus within the framework of the International Technical Assistance Project "GEF-6 Belarus POPs Legacy and Sustainable Chemicals Management Project".

Geocoma company specialists will package, weigh and label obsolete pesticides and ensure their safe transportation across borders to European waste elimination facilities.

The project monitors the activities under the contract: organisational issues related to repacking and preparation of waste loading into heavy truck transport are solved with the representatives of Geocoma company, sites near the warehouse hangars suitable for repacking and weighing are identified, safety issues during the works are discussed (placement of special signs warning about the presence of hazardous waste, use of insulating materials, use of personal protective equipment, compliance with safety requirements).
