OVER 280 OWNERS OF PCB-CONTAINING EQUIPMENT APPLY FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE SECOND STAGE OF THE PROJECT
A preliminary list of participants of the second stage of the Project has been formed. It includes 283 organizations that meet the necessary criteria, namely:
- the organizations owns PCB-containing equipment (which retained the factory labeling corresponding to the annexes to the Rules for the Handling of Equipment and Waste Containing PCBs, approved by the Resolution of the Ministry of Natural Resources of 24 June 2008 No. 62, or if the factory marking and technical documentation are not available at all and it is impossible to identify the equipment in this way);
- the existing equipment is decommissioned (it has already been transferred to waste or is in reserve and can be transferred as soon as possible);
- the organization is ready to provide co-financing in the amount of at least 25% of the total cost of removal and elimination of hazardous waste (in the form of payment for the services of a single consolidation center, which will take ownership of waste, carry out its preparation and act as a single exporter).

The collection of information was carried out with the help of key interested ministries and departments, as well as regional executive committees and Minsk City Executive Committee and territorial bodies of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus. Selective validation of the data obtained was also carried out.

The Project Management Group draws the attention of all organizations that have expressed their interest to participate in the second stage of the Project activities for the removal and elimination of PCB-containing equipment to the paramount importance of a high-quality inventory of equipment!

It is very important to have an accurate information on the available volumes of PCB-containing equipment at this stage. At the same time, an analysis of the existing experience in handling PCB-containing equipment in the Republic of Belarus and post-Soviet countries showed that there is a possibility of errors in the process of identifying PCB-containing power equipment. This is due to the fact that some brands of such equipment (in particular, capacitors) are outwardly absolutely identical and differ only in the letter code in the brand name, which indicates the presence of PCBs in the composition of this equipment.

That is why, in order to avoid erroneous inclusions in the volume of PCB-containing waste from capacitors that do not contain PCBs, and, consequently, irrational costs for the disposal of such waste, we ask you to be extremely careful when identifying such equipment: carefully check the remaining factory marking of power equipment (label) and correlate it with the lists of equipment brands containing PCBs!

If the equipment erroneously attributed to PCB-containing equipment is identified, it is necessary to take measures to correct the accounting data for PCB-containing equipment, make changes to the reports submitted earlier by your organization and inform the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus within the above time frame to correct the preliminary list of participants in the second stage of the Project.

If the equipment previously unaccounted for PCB-containing equipment is identified, the procedure is similar. We ask you to be as responsible as possible when it comes to the issue of the reliability of the data provided!

Further actions for the implementation of the second stage of the Project will be considered at a thematic online seminar. The information on its holding will be available in the news section of our website.
