THE PROJECT PARTICIPATED IN THE ROUND TABLE ORGANISED WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE SECRETARIAT OF THE BASEL CONVENTION

On 7 December 2022, the round table on transboundary movements of hazardous wastes was organised by the Basel Convention Regional Centre in Bratislava, Slovakia and the UNITAR/SCYCLE Programme with the support of the Secretariat of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal.

The representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus and the International Technical Assistance Project "GEF-6 Belarus POPs Legacy and Sustainable Chemicals Management" took part in the round table.

The Manual on the control of transboundary movements of waste electrical and electronic equipment in accordance with the provisions of the Basel Convention and the principles of environmentally sound management, developed by the UNITAR/SCYCLE Programme, was presented at the event. The representatives of the Basel Convention Competent Authority of the Republic of Moldova presented the problematic issues and good practices in the field of regulation of transboundary movements of hazardous wastes. The results of improving the procedures for issuing permits for transboundary movement of wastes at the national level were presented. The representatives of the Secretariat informed about the peculiarities of export, import and control procedures for transboundary movement of waste in accordance with the Basel Convention, as well as the methods of effective control over the transboundary movement of wastes.

The representative of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus presented a review of the legislation in the field of the control of the transboundary movement of hazardous wastes in the Republic of Belarus.

The participants noted the positive experience of the Republic of Belarus in the implementation of the provisions of the Basel Convention on the control of transboundary movement of hazardous wastes and their disposal, as well as effective interaction of the key state agencies within the work carried out in the republic to prevent illegal movement of hazardous wastes.
